Globalization is a historic phenomenon that has drawn the world closer together economically, politically, socially, and culturally. It may sound modern, but it can be traced back to ancient trade routes such as the Silk Road and its trans-Saharan caravan routes, which connected the transfer of goods, ideas, technologies, and cultures from one region to another. This study examines the history of globalization and its role in world integration across five stages: pre-modern globalization, colonial and imperial globalization, industrial globalization, institutional and financial globalization, and digital globalization. Rather than treating these stages as separate episodes, the study develops an integrated analytical framework that traces five interacting mechanisms: connectivity, power and unequal integration, industrial acceleration, institutional and financial integration, and digital connectivity through which each historical period transformed the conditions inherited from the one before it. The research is qualitative in nature and has a historical-analytical design that uses secondary academic, institutional, and statistical data, complemented by quantitative data from the World Bank, UNCTAD, ITU, and ECLAC. The findings indicate that technological innovations, the development of transport technology, trade liberalization, migration, and the opening of international institutions have significantly accelerated global integration. However, it has also been linked to some problems like economic inequality, cultural homogenization, environmental degradation, and inequity between countries. The study shows that globalization is a dynamic and multidimensional process that has been in the process of development throughout history, affecting the patterns of world integration and interdependence. Understanding the history of globalization helps us to understand the current challenges in the world and to formulate policies that can help achieve an inclusive, equitable and sustainable world development. The research also adds to the existing literature with respect to the path of globalization from the past to the present. The research also traces the future of globalization to give a comprehensive overview of the long-term implications and future of globalization.
