Passion Scientific Refereed Journal for Humanities Studies is committed to academic integrity, transparency, and responsible scholarly publishing in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and automated tools in research, manuscript preparation, peer review, editorial work, and publication.
The journal recognizes that artificial intelligence tools and large language model-based systems may be useful at certain stages of research, writing, and editing. However, their use must be responsible and transparent, and ultimate scholarly and ethical responsibility remains with human authors, reviewers, and editors.
1. Use of Artificial Intelligence by Authors
- Authors must disclose the use of AI-assisted technologies or automated tools in preparing a manuscript when their use goes beyond basic spelling, grammar checking, or formatting.
- Authors should identify, where applicable, the tool used, the purpose for which it was used, and the nature of its use in the appropriate section of the manuscript, in accordance with the journal’s instructions.
- Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, integrity, originality, and validity of all content in the manuscript, including content generated, modified, or developed with the assistance of AI tools.
- Authors must independently review and verify AI-generated or AI-assisted content because such tools may produce inaccurate, incomplete, biased, or incorrect information and references.
- AI tools and automated systems must not be listed as authors or co-authors because authorship requires the ability to assume responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the published work.
- Authors are responsible for ensuring that the use of AI does not result in plagiarism, copyright infringement, fabricated data or results, or inaccurate or fabricated references.
- Authors must verify any sources or references suggested or generated by AI tools and must not rely on unverified AI-generated references.
- The use of AI does not replace the intellectual and scholarly contribution of the authors and does not relieve them of responsibility for the final published work.
2. Disclosure of AI Use
When AI is used in preparing a manuscript beyond basic language correction or formatting, authors must clearly disclose such use.
The disclosure should, where applicable, identify:
- The name of the AI tool or system used.
- The purpose of its use.
- The nature of the task for which it was used.
- The extent of its contribution.
Disclosure of AI use must not imply that the AI tool assumes responsibility for the work. Ultimate responsibility remains with the authors.
3. Use of Artificial Intelligence by Reviewers
Reviewers must maintain strict confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts and all materials associated with them.
Reviewers must not upload manuscripts or any part thereof to AI tools or external platforms where doing so could compromise manuscript confidentiality, unless such use is expressly permitted by the journal and confidentiality can be assured.
Reviewers must not use AI to automatically generate a peer-review report or replace their independent scholarly judgment.
Where the journal permits the use of AI tools to assist with peer review, reviewers must comply with the journal’s instructions and disclose such use. All AI-generated output must be carefully reviewed and verified for accuracy and appropriateness.
4. Use of Artificial Intelligence by Editors
Editors and editorial board members are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of manuscripts, data, correspondence, and information associated with the peer-review process.
Unpublished manuscripts must not be uploaded to AI systems where confidentiality cannot be assured.
If AI tools are used for any editorial or production-related purpose, their use must remain subject to human oversight, and the responsible editor must verify the accuracy and appropriateness of the output.
All decisions concerning peer review, acceptance, rejection, and publication remain human decisions and the responsibility of the Editorial Board. Such decisions must not be delegated to AI tools.
5. Academic Integrity and Artificial Intelligence
The use of AI or automated tools is prohibited when it results in:
- Fabrication of data or results.
- Falsification or manipulation of information.
- Creation of fictitious references or sources.
- Plagiarism or unattributed reproduction of others’ work.
- Copyright infringement.
- Concealment of AI use when disclosure is required.
- Presenting AI-generated content as original human scholarly work without appropriate disclosure where required.
The journal may take appropriate editorial action when unethical or misleading use of AI is identified, in accordance with its Publication Ethics Policy and other relevant journal policies.
6. Human Review and Ultimate Responsibility
The journal emphasizes that the use of AI tools does not transfer scholarly or ethical responsibility for the work to the technology.
Authors, reviewers, and editors remain responsible for reviewing AI-assisted outputs and verifying their accuracy, integrity, relevance, and appropriateness before using or relying upon them.
7. Policy Review and Updates
The journal monitors developments in the use of artificial intelligence in scholarly research and publishing and reviews and updates this policy when necessary in accordance with relevant international guidance and best practices in academic integrity and publication ethics.
