The Role of Banking Applications (Bankak, Fawry) in Managing Financial Crises and Strengthening Social Solidarity Networks in Sudan (2023â2026.
This study aims to evaluate the pivotal role of Financial Technology (FinTech), specifically the “Bankak” and “Fawry” mobile applications, in enhancing the socio-economic resilience of Sudanese households and sustaining informal social safety nets between 2023 and 2026. The researchers adopted a descriptive-analytical approach to investigate the empirical problem. They collected primary data through a validated field questionnaire administered to a purposive sample of 100 affected respondents across the Republic of the Sudan and the diaspora. The research team processed the empirical data using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Statistical treatments included absolute frequencies, percentages, arithmetic means, and the Chi-Square test for independence to evaluate statistical significance. The empirical findings reveal that severe paper currency shortages forced 81% of respondents to rely daily on digital banking apps, effectively transforming FinTech into an essential survival infrastructure. The statistical analysis demonstrates a significant correlation (p le 0.01) between digital app adoption and household capacity to manage financial shocks and secure basic living requirements. Furthermore, instant financial transactions restructured traditional community solidarity into an institutionalized “Digital Collective effort “, which reliably sustained communal kitchens (Takaya) and emergency response rooms. The study recommends that the Central Bank of Sudan establish flexible daily transfer limits, banking institutions upgrade their cloud infrastructure, and international agencies such as the World Food Programmed (WFP) expand direct cash-based interventions through established digital banking applications.
